LISLE, IL – January 27, 2015 – Molex Incorporated, a leading global manufacturer of electronic solutions, announces the Polymicro Technologies™ MediSpec™ Hollow Silica Waveguide with aiming beam technology. The speciality waveguide designed for medical laser applications integrates mid-infrared laser power delivery and visible aiming beam alignment.

“Excellent laser guiding and precise visible aiming beam alignment are critical requirements for handheld probes and other laser therapy equipment in the operating room,” explains Teo Tichindelean, global product manager, Molex. “A game changing technology, the MediSpec waveguide gives surgeons a lightweight precision alternative to bulky articulated arms and handheld probes carrying two fiber cables, one for illumination and one for laser power delivery.”

Combining visible beam aiming and power delivery in a single fiber laser for CO2 and Er:YAG laser systems, the Polymicro Technologies MediSpec waveguide provides safer, easier and faster medical treatments. Designed for a wide range of laser power applications, MediSpec hollow silica waveguide fiber is available in 500, 750 and 1000 µm inner diameters with a wavelength range from 2.9 to 10.6 μm. The Tefzel jacket material is biocompatible and can withstand sterilization for invasive medical procedures. Various terminations are available upon request, using SMA, ST and FC connectors.

Manufactured in a Molex FDA registered facility, the MediSpec waveguide meets all labeling, packaging and sterilization requirements within FDA 21 CFR 820 Quality System Regulation (QSR) and cGMP. For more information, please visit MD&M West booth 1746 or www.molex.com/link/hswaimingbeam.html.
