FRAMOS, the global partner for Vision Technologies, extends its line of industrial grade versions of Intel’s® RealSense™ Suite providing Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and an IP66 rated housings. The D415e industrial 3D GigE Vision camera leverages the advantages of easy-to-integrate 3D vision in rugged environments; enabling real-time positioning, orientation, and tracking of robots, automated guided vehicles, and smart machines. Camera module versions of the D415e, and its sister, the D435e, will also be available in the Fall of 2020.

Ferdinand Reitze, FRAMOS Product Manager 3D, says: “Extending our portfolio of Ethernet based products using Intel’s® RealSense™ Technology opens up more 3D based vision applications. These industries have unique challenges in that require industrial housing and connectivity working in rough and dirty environments. The rugged enclosures on these new cameras keep foreign materials out while also allowing them to be protected from the shocks and vibrations from nearby machinery that is commonly seen with robotic pick and place systems, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or material handling devices. Long cable lengths and proven network technologies for single and multi-camera setups add additional value for observation and monitoring applications in the retail, agricultural and medical sectors.“

FRAMOS Has Innovated with Intel’s® RealSense™ Technology in Industry

The FRAMOS Industrial Depth Camera D415e, available in July 2020 for mass production, is built with Intel’s® D410 depth module and Intel’s® D4 vision processor. The camera features an industrial enclosure that is equipped with lockable connectors for gigabit ethernet (M12), power supply and GPIO (M8). It can also be configured to run using POE (Power Over Ethernet) to minimize cabling and connections to the camera. Alternatively, the M8 connector provides a separate 12V-24V power connection and GPIO for triggering and synchronization. The operating temperature range is between 0° and +55°C. The housing is equipped with IP66 grade protection for water and dust, and 4x M3 mounting holes. The camera works well with Intel’s® RealSense™ SDK 2.0 and is compatible with GigE Vision software applications.

The FRAMOS D415e Industrial Depth Camera provides higher accuracy with its wider baseline at 55mm but comes with tradeoffs having a slightly smaller FOV at 72° (diagonal), greater min z-distance at 0.16m and utilizing rolling shutter based sensors for its imaging depth sensors compared to its sister, the D435e. This camera achieves characteristics and performance that are equivalent to Intel’s® RealSense™ D415 USB version. In addition, FRAMOS has designed its own processing board to meet industrial interface requirements. FRAMOS’ GigE Vision IP is directly connected to Intel’s® D4 ASIC.

Miroslav Mlejnek, Intel® RealSense® EMEA Technical and Sales Manager, says: “The D415e Ethernet Camera from FRAMOS complements well with the D435e that is already available as both provide Intel® RealSense™ technology for harsh environments. The availability of having both these cameras in board level, camera module based, versions further extends their configurability and integration into more complex machinery and industrial vision applications.”

Also coming in Fall of 2020, FRAMOS is announcing the availability both the D415e and D435e in camera module version, without their robust enclosures. The first of its kind to offer Intel® RealSense™, Ethernet and GPIO connectivity in a board level format. These products are identical in performance to their bigger sisters but now offer the ability to design their components more easily into new and existing configurations and designs. All FRAMOS D400e camera modules come complete with their respective Intel® RealSense™ depth modules, the FRAMOS D4 vision processing module and the associated interposer cables. In these configurations, the camera’s components can be positioned in a way to allow better integration into a new or existing vision application designs or with challenging form factors. These products can be made available upon request.
