Andover, MA – November 16, 2021 – MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI) introduces its Spectra-Physics® Quasar® UV80 laser, a new high power, high pulse energy ultraviolet (UV) wavelength addition to its Quasar family of hybrid fiber lasers.  The new laser offers industry-leading high power of >80 W UV, >400 µJ pulse energy, and excellent single-mode beam quality.  The new laser’s TimeShift™ programmable pulse capability results in adjustable pulse widths, pulse shapes and repetition rates for laser micromachining process optimization.  The Quasar UV80 laser is ideal for applications in high throughput manufacturing of electronic packages and components, ceramics, PC boards, semiconductors, solar panels, lithium-ion batteries, and lightweight carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) parts.

“Building on the highly successful Quasar laser platform, the new Quasar UV80 laser deliver industry-leading performance and enables new processes and high throughput and quality in a wide range of demanding 24/7 micromachining volume manufacturing applications,” says Dave Allen, senior vice president and general manager for Spectra-Physics lasers.  “The new laser further extends the company’s leadership in UV and green lasers for micromachining applications.”

With its TimeShift capability, the Quasar UV80 laser features tunable pulse widths from <2 to >100 ns, adjustable repetition rates from single shot to 3.5 MHz, as well as burst mode and programmable pulse shapes.  The Quasar UV80 laser outputs a near diffraction-limited single mode UV beam. The laser’s hybrid fiber architecture combines advanced fiber laser, power amplifier and patented harmonics technologies to achieve unprecedented performance. Utilizing long-life components and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, the new laser has passed extensive environmental qualification testing, and each laser is subjected to rigorous tests to ensure high reliability.

The new Spectra-Physics Quasar UV80 laser will be featured at SPIE Photonics West, Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, January 25-27, 2022. Please visit Spectra-Physics at booth #927 for a demonstration. For more information, please see www.spectra-physics.com/Quasar.
