Point Grey's New Flea3 USB 3.0 Model: The FL3-U3-13E4C

September 19, 2012

September 19, 2012 – Richmond, BC, Canada – Point Grey, one of the world's leading and most innovative providers of high performance digital cameras for industrial, bioscience, traffic, and GIS applications, today announces the addition of an exciting new model to its popular line of Flea3 USB 3.0 cameras. This newest Flea3 model uses the fast and sensitive EV76C560 global shutter CMOS image sensor from e2v to deliver high quality 1.3 MP images at 60 FPS.

The FL3-U3-13E4C/M-C provides a global shutter mode for distortion-free motion capture and an electronic rolling shutter mode for low read noise and improved dynamic range. It is ideal for applications that require fast frame rates and high image quality, such as 3D scanning, characterization of parts, and eye or gesture tracking. The camera’s CMOS image sensor makes the camera well-suited for outdoor imaging applications, such as intelligent traffic systems, where smear must be minimized.

Point Grey’s Flea3 camera line measures just 29 x 29 x 30 mm and provides a unique set of features dedicated to maximizing USB 3.0 reliability, including a 32 megabyte frame buffer: on-camera power, temperature, and status monitoring; and in-field updatable firmware. The camera also provides a full image processing pipeline, including color interpolation, look up table, gamma correction, pixel binning functionality, and more.

“Since launching the Flea3 USB 3.0 in 2011, Point Grey shipped thousands of cameras and has led the way in imaging over USB 3.0,” explains Michael Gibbons, Director of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Gibbons adds, “We continue to add new models, improve upon our USB 3.0 ecosystem, and offer multiple resources for users on using this powerful interface.”

The Flea3 FL3-U3-13E4C/M-C (color and monochrome) model is list priced at USD $725 and is available to order now from Point Grey and its network of distributors.
