Press Release
PARSIPPANY, N.J., APRIL 6, 2011 - DRS Technologies, Inc.,
a Finmeccanica Company, announced its Reconnaissance,
Surveillance and Target Acquisition (RSTA) Group launched
a new family of surveillance and security thermal imaging systems
to commercial and law-enforcement applications.
The new line of infrared systems includes the WatchMasterTM Pro
and the WatchMasterTM Pro+. Whether the camera is in a fixed location,
on a moveable mast, or mounted on a vehicle, it provides these systems
unparalleled performance for force protection, border patrols,
airport and base security, law-enforcement agencies and vulnerable
critical infrastructure, such as utility-company facilities.
Both versions of the system pair a high-performance thermal
camera—which can display images through smoke, dust, haze,
light fog and complete darkness—with a color CCD camera that
in daylight conditions, and can be used to identify specific
surveillance targets such as vehicle license plates or facial
details on a human subject.
“DRS Technologies has been a leader in infrared technology for military applications.
In our new line of WatchMasterTM systems, we have translated our experience in imaging
systems for highly secured commercial enterprises as well as regional,
state and local law-enforcement agencies,” says RSTA President Terry Murphy.
“We’re proud to offer these cameras to those who may have once considered
them beyond their reach.”
The WatchMasterTM Pro embraces high performance in a small package.
Operating in the long- wavelength infrared spectrum, it employs an uncooled
Vanadium Oxide (VOx) detector to produce thermal images of unparallel clarity.
The high-powered WatchMasterTM Pro+ is a cooled infrared system that
operates in the mid-wavelength spectrum and employs DRS’ cooled Mercury
Cadmium Telluride detector with an exceptionally long-lived cryogenic cooler.
This translates to long-range capabilities with exceptional image contrast that
offers four times the range compared to uncooled systems.
To enhance its versatility, DRS designed the WatchMaster™ Pro so it can be
transformed into a WatchMaster™ Pro+ with a quick and easy factory upgrade.
To benefit both users and integrators, the two versions have identical
interfaces and command/control infrastructures.
