September 20, 2016 – Trenton, New Jersey USA Princeton Instruments announces the launch of the FERGIE™ spectroscopy system. FERGIE is a fully integrated, aberration-free spectrograph with a built-in, low-noise, cooled detector. Featuring a trim 11” x 7” x 8” profile, FERGIE provides the high sensitivity and low noise needed to address a wide range of spectroscopy applications. Its ecosystem of easy-to-use accessories, which includes everything from lasers, fiber optics, and calibration sources to the ingeniously designed family of light-coupling FERGIE CUBES, allows scientists, educators, and engineers to put together complete experiments in a matter of minutes. For example, a typical Raman experiment that used to take hours to set up can now be ready in less than 90 seconds!

Thanks to a proprietary Princeton Instruments optical design, the competitively priced FERGIE offers spectral resolution (0.13 nm/pixel with a 1200 g/mm grating) that fares very well when compared to the resolution afforded by larger spectrographs with longer focal lengths. Additionally, FERGIE’s diffraction-limited imaging (>60 lp/mm spatial resolution throughout the focal plane) yields exceptionally high signal-to-noise ratios and permits multichannel spectroscopy. Every FERGIE spectrograph has a built-in detector that permits high-sensitivity spectral capture from 190 nm to 1100 nm. These proprietary eXcelon®-enabled CCDs, available exclusively from Princeton Instruments, utilize a frame-transfer, back-illuminated sensor architecture and can be ordered with deep-depletion technology for enhanced near-IR sensitivity.

The new spectroscopy system ships with a full-feature version of powerful FERGIE software, powered by LightField - Princeton Instruments’ acclaimed scientific spectroscopy software. Its beautifully rendered, intuitive GUI helps FERGIE users construct experiments in only minutes. The entire list of advanced FERGIE system features is supported, including a built-in timing generator for time-resolved spectroscopy experiments as well as both automated wavelength and intensity calibration via available reference light sources.

“At Princeton Instruments, we’re passionate about spectroscopy and truly relentless in our pursuit of developing equipment that lets researchers be more productive,” asserts Jason McClure, chief scientist at Princeton Instruments. “As an example, our award-winning IsoPlane® imaging spectrometer, which was introduced in 2012, immediately set impressive benchmarks in sensitivity and optical performance for research-grade spectrographs. Since the IsoPlane, we’ve spent a lot of time developing FERGIE and its ecosystem of accessories specifically so that you won’t have to waste any of your time. Whether you do Raman, absorption, transmission, or microspectroscopy, the new FERGIE’s ready to use right now.”
