PHOTONIS USA Announces New High Mass BiPolar MALDI TOF Detector
Innovative New Design Eliminates Complexities
15 May, 2012
Sturbridge, MA - PHOTONIS USA, a leading electro-optic mass spectrometer component
manufacturer, announces a new High Mass BiPolar Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time of
Flight (MALDI-TOF) detector which improves the detection efficiency of very high mass ions with
significantly less complexity when compared to other high-mass MALDI-TOF detection solutions. It will
be on display at the PHOTONIS booth (#76) at the upcoming American Society of Mass Spectrometry
Conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada from May 20-25.
The new PHOTONIS high mass MALDI-TOF detector features a large 250 mm2 collection area
which allows for higher sensitivities without the need for higher post-acceleration voltage. The detector is
comprised of a high-sensitivity microchannel plate, a high-speed scintillator, and a photomultiplier which
can detect both positive and negative ions with 30 kV isolation. This innovative solution also features a
gridless optic system that provides high sensitivity detection for masses in excess of 100 kDa. The
compact shape and simplified detection system supports many high mass operating modes without the
need to manipulate the detector through the ion beam.
PHOTONIS is a multinational high-technology group, with more than 40 years experience in
manufacture, sales and innovation, specializing in photo sensor technology. The Group operates
Internationally in the Night Vision, Industrial, Scientific and Medical Imaging markets. PHOTONIS USA
designs and manufactures a wide range of custom and standard components and assemblies for mass
spectroscopy as well as other medical, bio-medical and scientific instruments and holds several patents
in these fields.
