TOKYO, July 26, 2012—Canon Inc. and Canon Marketing Japan Inc. announced today the introduction to the Japanese
market of three new compact digital cameras: the IXY 430F, the PowerShot A4000 IS and the PowerShot A2400 IS. The IXY 430F features
fully automatic Smart AUTO with Face ID, and an advanced wireless transfer function enabling the sending of images and video via
Wi-Fi. The PowerShot A4000 IS and PowerShot A2400 IS enable users to effortlessly capture high-quality images, incorporating Smart
AUTO that, together with Intelligent IS, automatically detects and applies the optimal camera settings based on up to 78 shooting
The new Canon IXY 430F’s Smart AUTO function, which detects and applies optimal camera settings based on different shooting
conditions, includes Face ID to allow users to register the face, name and birthday of subjects they wish to capture.
This feature enables the camera to detect and prioritize the pre-registered faces during shooting, automatically adjusting
focus and brightness. When the camera recognizes the subject as an infant, it will automatically disable the flash and adjust
exposure, delivering natural imaging results without disturbing the subject.
The IXY 430F includes Intelligent IS, which automatically selects and applies the optimal image stabilization settings based
on the shooting situation, such as during normal conditions, macro shooting, and when using a tripod. The combination of
Smart AUTO and Intelligent IS enables the camera to automatically detect a total of up to 205 different shooting situations.
Featuring an advanced Wi-Fi connectivity function, the 430F includes a Camera Access Point mode enabling users to send image
data to a smartphone, even when they are not close to a Wi-Fi access point. In addition, the Wi-Fi Print mode allows captured
images to be sent wirelessly to and output from the SELPHY CP900 compact photo printer (to be released in September 2012).
By downloading the dedicated Canon CameraWindow smartphone application, which includes a GPS Mobile Link function, users can
add location data to images and confirm where photos were captured.
The IXY 430F incorporates Canon’s latest high-performance image processor, DIGIC 5, and an approximately 16.1-megapixel CMOS sensor
offering low-noise performance. Supporting the HS System, DIGIC 5, combined with the CMOS sensor, minimizes blur and reduces noise,
even when shooting in low-light conditions, such as night scenes or indoor settings, without using a flash or tripod.
The camera supports Full HD 1,980 x 1,080 video recording at 24 frames per second with stereo sound, which can be quickly accessed
through the Movie Button so that no video opportunity is lost. In addition to a 24 mm* 5x optical zoom lens, the IXY 430F features
Progressive Fine Zoom, which extends the camera’s zoom range up to 10x through digital magnification while still maintaining
a high level of resolution. The camera’s 3.2-inch Wide Touch Panel, supporting Touch Shutter, enables users to determine the
ideal timing to capture a photo simply by touching the viewing monitor. The IXY 430F is available in four color variations:
purple, silver, gold and pink.
PowerShot A4000 IS
PowerShot A4000 IS and A2400 IS
Incorporating Smart AUTO and Intelligent IS, the new Canon PowerShot A4000 IS and A2400 IS compact digital cameras enable users
to capture high-quality images with ease by automatically detecting and applying optimal camera settings based on up to 78
different shooting situations. The A4000 IS incorporates an 8x optical zoom lens (28–224 mm* / f/3.0–f/5.9) in a svelte body design
measuring only 24.3 mm thick, while the A2400 IS employs a 5x optical zoom lens (28–140 mm* / f/2.8–f/6.9).
PowerShot A2400 IS
The Canon PowerShot A4000 IS and A2400 IS include a Help Button that, when pressed, displays guidance for operating the camera
and selecting different settings. Furthermore, regardless of the shooting mode being used, one press of the Auto button returns
the camera to Auto Mode. In addition to featuring stylish body designs, each new PowerShot compact digital camera incorporates
an approximately 16.0-megapixel CCD sensor and a DIGIC 4 image processor, and supports the capture of HD 1,280 x 720 pixel video
at 25 frames per second.
