18/07/2011

At this year's Red Bull X-Alps adventure race, 30 athletes will be starting the race with a Leica V-Lux 30. They will be using the small compact camera to document this unique sporting challenge covering an 864-kilometre course from Salzburg to Monaco in a non-stop race across the Alps on foot or with paragliders. The race begins on 17 July 2011, at 11.30 a.m. on the Mozartplatz in Salzburg. Leica Camera AG will be following the race and showing the competitors' pictures on the Leica Blog at http://blog.leica-camera.com/ and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LeicaCamera.

The Red Bull X-Alps adventure race crosses eight Alpine peaks and passes through five countries along the way. It promises spectacular views that will be perfectly captured by the Leica with its high-performance lens and enormous zoom range of 24 to 384 millimetres.

With the V-Lux 30, the athletes can also capture their adventures in 1,920 × 1,080i AVCHD Full HD video including GPS positioning data to let their fans share the X-Alps experience as if they were there in person. The race promises fantastic scenes as the competition, the fifth in the series, has the reputation of being one of the toughest in the world - last year, only two of the 30 competitors actually managed to cross the finishing line.
