The asphericon ION FinishTM technology now enables precision of λ/600 RMS for plane surfaces.

Based on many years of experience in processing challenging, curved surfaces, asphericon is now in a position to ensure precision of up to λ/600 RMS* for plane surfaces. The asphericon ION FinishTM technology is used to do this, enabling the highly precise processing of surfaces. Figures 1 and 2 show the data from interferometer measurements before and after the ION FinishTM correction. The processing time for the plano substrate was around 20 minutes.

“In addition to the precise correction of aspherical surfaces, the ION FinishTM technology has once again proven its performance and high level of versatility through the processing of plane surfaces,” explained the technical CEO, Sven R. Kiontke. “This technique can be used to process almost all optical glasses and most crystalline materials. What’s more, the sophisticated process flow keeps the processing times and costs similar to those for traditional technologies.”

asphericon ION FinishTM corrects contour errors with high time efficiency and achieves the utmost contouring accuracy, exceeding the current international standard. In contrast to other technologies currently available, the process can be used on a very wide range of shapes and materials. The surface treatment also takes place without contact and leaves behind no unnecessary tool residues.
